starting the rebuild...slowly
well me and the lovely wife went on a bit of a road trip to visit family, and on the way i picked up a used hood (thanks big poppa!) to repair and install, and i picked up a open diff (for free) from a friend and brought them back to the house to begin the rebuilding process. i cleaned up the trans. bell housing, and removed the old trashed vlsd.. on that note, if anyone reading this wants to build a "budget" drift car, let this rebuild of mine be a warning: DONT CUT CORNERS!! all of the damage to this car (minus the minor front end damage) is because of cutting corners,half@ssing installs.. do it right the FIRST time and save yourself (and the whole enthusiast community) a bunch of money and headache. i also removed the old worn flywheel in preparation for installing the new F1 light weight flywheel that came in the mail while i was road tripping.. also what came in the mail was my new Exedy clutch! yay! i can begin installing these parts and i am this much closer to the first drive around the block!
the new lightweight flywheel!
i think this diff could be a j30..i dont know for sure, what i do know is the idiots that installed it did it all wrong and really f**ked up a great vlsd opportunity
took a long time and a can of brake cleaner to get all the remain of the clutch cleaned out of the bell housing. seeing abuse like this really p!sses me off..
got the replacement diff, exhaust, and drive shaft put back on...
replaced the badly damaged old hood with the one i picked up, got some fitting to do still but it is coming along nicely.. a much much better hood!
another look at the replacement diff all bolted up properly this time.
the old stock flywheel was badly scorched and scratched up. god only knows how many clutch disc died on this thing lol
the silvia conversion all hooked up and working! still gotta fabricate a support for the center grille piece. the wiring was a pain to fix, but i learned alot.
